Community Outreach

Serving the Clayton neighbourhood and the broader Surrey community with genuine love and practical action

Love for Neighbour in Action

For the Clayton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, community service is not a seasonal event or a marketing exercise — it is a daily expression of the values we hold most deeply. The Bible's instruction to "love your neighbour as yourself" (Matthew 22:39) is not merely a principle we teach; it is a commitment we live out in the streets, parks, care homes, and neighbourhoods of Surrey every week.

Surrey is one of Canada's fastest-growing and most culturally diverse cities. The Clayton neighbourhood in particular has seen tremendous growth, with families arriving from across Canada and around the world. We believe a congregation that truly loves its community must be present in that community — not only on Sunday mornings, but throughout the week, in ways that make a tangible difference in people's lives.

The outreach activities described on this page are carried out entirely by volunteer members of our congregation, motivated not by obligation but by genuine care for the men, women, and children who share our community. No government funding, corporate sponsorship, or grant underwrites these activities — they are sustained by the hearts and hands of our members.

Sharing Hope Door to Door

The most visible form of outreach for Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide is the door-to-door ministry — a practice that dates to the earliest days of Christianity and reflects the pattern set by Jesus and his apostles. Members of the Clayton Congregation engage in this ministry throughout the Clayton neighbourhood and surrounding areas of Surrey several times each week.

Our door-to-door ministry is conducted respectfully and with genuine care for the people we meet. We never pressure or harass; we simply introduce ourselves, share a brief thought from the Bible, and offer free Bible literature to those who are interested. Many wonderful conversations about life's deepest questions have begun on a doorstep in Surrey.

In addition to residential ministry, congregation members engage in public witnessing at high-traffic locations in the Surrey area, staffing information tables with free Bible-based literature and warmly welcoming conversations with passersby. All literature offered is provided at absolutely no cost.

Disaster Relief & Emergency Response

Jehovah's Witnesses have one of the world's most respected and effective disaster relief networks. The organization's rapid-response disaster relief teams have been deployed to major disasters across the globe — from tsunamis in Southeast Asia to hurricanes in the Americas to wildfires in Western Canada — providing free, rapid, practical assistance to those in need regardless of their religious affiliation.

The Clayton Congregation is connected to this international network and stands ready to mobilize local volunteers whenever disaster affects our community. In the aftermath of significant flooding and wildfire events in British Columbia in recent years, congregation members from across the province participated in clean-up and rebuilding efforts — always free of charge, always with genuine love for those affected.

Locally, our members are trained in basic emergency preparedness and share this knowledge with neighbours and community members. We believe informed, prepared communities suffer less in emergencies, and we take an active role in helping Surrey families prepare for the particular risks our region faces — from earthquakes and flooding to extended power outages.

Neighbourhood Support & Environmental Stewardship

Environmental Stewardship

We believe caring for the earth is a responsibility entrusted to us by God (Genesis 2:15). Congregation members organize regular neighbourhood clean-up events, participate in community green space maintenance, and promote environmental responsibility in our educational programming. We are proud to contribute to a cleaner, greener Clayton.

Practical Neighbour Assistance

Our members assist elderly, disabled, or recently bereaved neighbours with practical everyday tasks — grocery shopping, meal preparation, transportation to appointments, snow removal, and minor household repairs. These acts of kindness are not organized programmes but the natural expression of a genuinely loving congregation community.

Visiting the Isolated

Loneliness and social isolation are significant public health challenges in Surrey, particularly among the elderly. Members of our congregation make regular visits to isolated seniors — in their homes and in care facilities across the area — providing companionship, encouragement, and genuine friendship that many residents desperately need.

Peaceful Coexistence in a Diverse Surrey

Surrey is one of the most religiously diverse cities in Canada, home to Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, Christians of many traditions, Buddhists, and people of no religious affiliation. The Clayton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses deeply respects this diversity and is committed to being a constructive, peaceful presence in this multicultural community.

While we believe our message is one of universal hope and share it openly with our neighbours, we do so always with genuine respect for the beliefs and choices of others. We never engage in hostile or derogatory commentary about other faiths, and we actively promote values of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and goodwill among all people in Surrey regardless of their background.

The Bible teaches that God "is not partial" and that every person who "fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him" (Acts 10:34,35). This conviction shapes our entire approach to community outreach — not with condescension or judgment, but with genuine love for every person as a cherished creation of God.

  • Respectful engagement with all backgrounds and faiths
  • No hostile or derogatory commentary about others
  • Committed to peaceful coexistence in a diverse community
  • Multilingual outreach respecting Surrey's cultural diversity
